Arabica vs Robusta--Really No Contest.

Despite containing less caffeine than Robusta, Arabica beans are often considered superior in taste. Arabica tends to have a smoother, sweeter taste, with flavour notes of chocolate and sugar. They often also have hints of fruits or berries. Robusta, on the other hand, has a stronger, harsher and more bitter taste, with grainy or rubbery overtones.

Robusta  is typically produced at lower altitudes, is more disease- and pest-resistant (partly because of its higher caffeine content), and it typically produces a larger crop than Arabica. It is usually much cheaper.Blends that are 100 percent Arabica are always labeled to attract more discriminating buyers and to justify the increased price. When producers decided to add Robusta to their blends, prices decreased, but so did consumption leading to the specialty coffee sector which has been growing year after year because we make it taste better.
